Purple Hibiscus Response

When I received the book Purple Hibiscus, I expected it to be similar to Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, funny and . As I am starting to get into I have realized that it is nothing like ATDPTI. It is a personal, emotional book about real world problems. The author of this book, Adichie, is an amazing author and is making the problems in this book very real. I like this book a lot because it is very interesting to read about the problems in Nigeria.

I chose to read for race and gender. I chose this because now a days white women are not treated equally. So I am curious to see how an African American women was treated like in the 1990s. Already, Kambili Achike, the mother in Purple Hibiscus is not treated equally. I have a feeling that as this book progresses so will these topics and the reader will be able to see how unequal women were in the 1990s.

Dialogue

"How was school today Ellie?" My mom asks as I get in the car. "Fine," I say tired as always. "Did anything happen today? Anything important?" She says as if she knows something. "Not really. Except I had a French test," I say distantly because my phone is distracting me. "Well, how did it go?" "It was alright, I studied so hard for it. I think I made an A," I say still distracted by my phone. "Good." We drive the rest of the car ride in silence because my mom has nothing to say, and I am too distracted to say anything. "Home already," I mumble to myself, not noticing how short one car ride could be. "What was that?" My mom asks. "Nothing," I say annoyed. "Ellie start your homework soon! You need to go to bed by 10:00," says my mom knowing by the time I finished homework and lollygagging on my phone, it will already be 11:00. "Mom but I am so tired, can't I

Political Post

In the article  Aide to NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio arrested; police cite loaded gun, 'odor of marijuana' , Cummings explains that a women working in Mayor Bill de Blasios building was arrested for having a loaded gun, and having an 'odor of marijuana' on her. The police say that it was a handgun located in her car. They found the gun because apparently there were sounds of gunfire the night before and they found the worker, Reagan Stevens, sitting in the backseat of her car. The officers could smell the marijuana, so they searched the car. Stevens will be 'suspended without pay' and they will be taking this situation very seriously. I believe that Stevens should be fired because she was a significant public figure that Blasio relied on and trusted. They hired Stevens because they believed she was loyal and hardworking person and she turned out to be doing drugs when she was not supposed to. I chose this article because I liked the topic and the headline stood ou

It's Kind of a Funny Story

It's Kind of a Funny Story , is actually kind of a funny story. There is a kid named Craig. Craig has been suffering from depression ever since he started at his new school that sets high standards. As I was reading this book I noticed that the author, Ned Vizzini, made out Craig's depression to not be so serious. Throughout the book, he made subtle jokes that made me laugh out loud. This book also has life lessons and it may be able to help people understand that they are not the only ones going through hard times. What I really love is that this book is told from the authors' experiences. It makes the book feel so surreal. The way Ned Vizzini describes everything makes you feel like you are walking around as Craig, the main character. His writing is so real. most authors that write about teen depression do not really know what it is like, but Ned Vizzini did understand what it was like. I highly recommend this book to everyone because everyone goes through hard times a
