Hits and Misses

I have had many hits and misses in the school year 2017-2018. Some of my hits included my personal narrative and my free posts for my blogs. Something about getting to choose what I get to write about is so much simpler to me. I do not need to cite or read very much before I write about whatever topic I choose. I always tend to want to write on these. I feel like the reason for these "free writes" my writing flowed so much easier and I always had something to write about.

On the other hand I had so much trouble on my literary analysis and writing about the book we were reading about on my blog. I think having to cite and think back to very specific details that did not happen to me made it more difficult to write, so I constantly had writers block. Overall, I feel like I had a fair amount of hits and misses throughout the year that made me a much stronger writer.

  1. I have similar hits and misses as you! I also struggled with the literary analysis as specific details made it hard.

Dialogue

"How was school today Ellie?" My mom asks as I get in the car. "Fine," I say tired as always. "Did anything happen today? Anything important?" She says as if she knows something. "Not really. Except I had a French test," I say distantly because my phone is distracting me. "Well, how did it go?" "It was alright, I studied so hard for it. I think I made an A," I say still distracted by my phone. "Good." We drive the rest of the car ride in silence because my mom has nothing to say, and I am too distracted to say anything. "Home already," I mumble to myself, not noticing how short one car ride could be. "What was that?" My mom asks. "Nothing," I say annoyed. "Ellie start your homework soon! You need to go to bed by 10:00," says my mom knowing by the time I finished homework and lollygagging on my phone, it will already be 11:00. "Mom but I am so tired, can't I ...

It's Kind of a Funny Story

It's Kind of a Funny Story , is actually kind of a funny story. There is a kid named Craig. Craig has been suffering from depression ever since he started at his new school that sets high standards. As I was reading this book I noticed that the author, Ned Vizzini, made out Craig's depression to not be so serious. Throughout the book, he made subtle jokes that made me laugh out loud. This book also has life lessons and it may be able to help people understand that they are not the only ones going through hard times. What I really love is that this book is told from the authors' experiences. It makes the book feel so surreal. The way Ned Vizzini describes everything makes you feel like you are walking around as Craig, the main character. His writing is so real. most authors that write about teen depression do not really know what it is like, but Ned Vizzini did understand what it was like. I highly recommend this book to everyone because everyone goes through hard times a...

Mint Snowball

Mint Snowball had to be one of the most detailed pieces of writings I have ever read. That is why I was so intruiged when I started reading. Normally I dislike reading and annotating liturature, but I loved reading Mint Snowball because everytime I reread it I felt like I was in the shop tasting the snowball for the first time, over and over again. I really loved how the author used details about the snowball that she had never even come close to tasting. As I was reading I noticed that the only thing the author had left of her great grandfather was the snowball recipie, which was sold for hundreds of dollars, intead of passing it down the generations. I also love how the narrative ends with questions that will not be answered, and leaves you thinking.
